Monoprice's Response to Collecting Tax on Shipping (Part 1)

Here's a response from Monoprice to an email of mine explaining why they are taxing handling.
Hello xxxxxxxxxxxx
Thank you for your email.
We charge our customers a single amount for shipping and handling, it is determined that such combined charges are generally taxable under the California State tax law. As a result, effective January 1, 2010, we decided to collect sales taxes on shipping and handling charges for orders going to the California State.
For more information, please refer to "Publication 100, Shipping and Delivery Charges" available at the California State Board of Equalization website (http://www.boe.ca.gov/pdf/pub100.pdf).
Truly sorry for any inconvenience it may cause you.
Should you have any inquiries, please feel free to email us.
We appreciate your business.
Regards,
